Lenoir City Park
Located right next to the scenic Fort Loudon Dam and Marina, Lenoir City Park offers seven picnic shelters, allowing you to enjoy a picnic overlooking Fort Loudon Lake. While you’re setting out lunch, the kids can enjoy the park’s two playground areas. After lunch, enjoy a game of tennis or volleyball, or explore the walking trail. The park also features a fishing pier, so bring your fishing pole and try your luck at catching bluegill, white bass, and walleye.
Rock Springs Park
Rock Springs Park is conveniently located just a half-mile from Highway 321. The park’s one picnic shelter is available on a first-come, first-serve basis only, so make sure you get to the park early. Rock Springs Park features a playground area and restrooms. A walking trail traverses a beautiful wooded area and a charming bridge. Be sure to keep an eye out for ducks, herons, and other waterfowl.
Lee Russell Recreation Complex
If your kids participate in Little League or other athletic activities, you’re probably already aware of the Lee Russell Recreation Complex’s state-of-the-art facilities. Featuring two baseball fields, a softball field, and a concession stand, the complex is a very popular destination for Lenoir City families. It also features a picnic shelter so you can celebrate your team’s victory or other special occasions.
Wampler Keith Park
Wampler Keith Park is another Lenoir City treasure offering several scenic picnic areas. The park also features soccer fields, a skatepark, and a basketball court. Younger family members will enjoy the park’s many green spaces. After lunch, enjoy a nature walk on the park’s trail. See who can spot the most squirrels and rabbits, and see if you can identify the trees that line the path.
Fort Loudoun State Park
Constructed in 1756, Fort Loudoun was one of the first British fortifications on the western frontier. The fort was reconstructed during the Great Depression, and today, it’s the centerpiece of Fort Loudoun State Park. The park’s picnic pavilion, overlooking the Tellico River, can accommodate up to 64 people, so it’s a great spot for a family reunion or other significant event.
After lunch, the entire family will enjoy exploring the fort and learning about this important piece of Tennessee’s history. Five miles of walking trails loop around the park so that you can explore the natural wonders as well. Fort Loudoun State Park is an excellent location for observing shorebirds, osprey, and bald eagles. Tellico Lake is a popular spot for bass fishing. You can also rent a kayak or standup paddleboard.
